On this page you can find links to a variety of pronunciation websites. Many of these are American. Don't forget to go to the listening section as many of the sites have transcripts of listening files. Listening, reading and repeating difficult words and phrases is a good one way to improve your pronunciation. You will probably have a microphone and sound card on your PC - so why don't you record yourself speaking and compare it with a native speaker? If you are an international student at Nottingham you might be eligible for free pronunciation classes. To view the pronunciation courses available at Nottingham University click here. To view the CELE insessional individual consultation page click here. When you click on a link the page will open in a new window
A really attractive and well-designed website. Here you can select the English sound you want to hear and, in addition, you can watch small video clips showing you how to make each individual sound in English. Highly recommended. A very useful site that covers many aspects of pronunciation such as; individual sounds, stress, intonation, homophones, how to say linking words in English, and links to other websites. Minimal pairs gives you practice in listening to words which sounds very similar. This website shows you typical mistakes made by different nationalities and language groups. Although it doesn't have any sound files, for each mistake shown it gives you a unit to study in a pronunciation book. CELE has all the pronunciation books used on this website. Ask your CELE tutor about using these materials. This is a fantastic site - not only daily advice on pronunciation but also a wealth of exercises and diagnostic tests. Very worth exploring! This website includes tests, consonant and vowel sounds as well as a useful set of pronunciation links. This website provides you with a complete 13-unit online pronunciation course. This is a very useful site if you want to study pronunciation systematically. Yet another very useful site. You can find a large number of activities, exercises and advice on this website. |
