There are many grammar websites available on the Internet. Only a few have been included here. Many of our students need to improve grammar in academic writing. If this is the case for you then you should also look at some of the websites in the writing section of this website.

  • The Edict site provides a number of grammar exercises and advice on, for example, articles, common errors, modality, adjectives ... This is a very useful website, well worth a visit.

  • Capital Community College Guide to Grammar
  • An excellent site if you are looking for clear explanations of many aspects of English grammar. There are also a number of quizzes to test your understanding of grammar. Highly recommended.

  • Guide to Grammar and Style by Jack Lynch
  • A very comprehensive grammar guide for academic writing. You can probably find advice on almost any aspect of grammar for academic writing on this site.

  • HyperGrammar
  • Another very useful site that can help you with academic grammar. No exercises but the explanations are very useful.

  • Grammar Handbook
  • This is a really useful academic grammar reference guide from The Centre for Writing Studies, University of Illinois. Although there are no exercises here, you should consult this site if you have questions relating to grammar in writing.

  • Academic Grammar
  • Academic Grammar is for Arts and Social science students and aims to help students in the following areas: the essay, the literature review essay, and the research report. This is a very comprehensive site, easy to use and contains a large number of exercises and tasks.
